Structure & Equipment

The Raiding Support Regiment was composed of a non-operational Headquarters and operational 5 Batteries named ‘A’ to ‘E’ which performed different roles. 

As at February 1944, the structure and composition of the Raiding Support Regiment was as follows:

 

  • RSR HQ

The task of the non-operational HQ was to administer, train and equip the 5 operational batteries of the regiment for operations.

Comprising 4 officers and 99, plus

    • Attached: 1 officer and 38 men
    • Reinforcements: 9 officers and 88 men

 

  • ‘A’ BATTERY – Medium Machine Guns

‘A’ Battery comprised 9 officers and 52 men. There were 2 Troops of 4 officers and 24 men each, with each Troop containing 3 Sections( 1 officer and 7 men each)

1 Troop:

Section 1 : 2 x MG 34s

Section 2 : 2 x MG 34s

Section 3 : 2 x Vickers MMG

2 Troop:

Section 4 : 2 x MG 34s

Section 5 : 2 x MG 34s

Section 6 : 2 x Vickers MMG

Total: 8 x MG 34s, 4 x Vickers MMGs

 

  • ‘B’ BATTERY – 3 inch Mortars

‘B’ Battery comprised 13 officers and 118 men. There were 3 Troops of 4 officers and 38 men each, with each Troop containing 3 Sections( 1 officer and 11 men each)

‘C’ BATTERY – Anti Air

‘C’ Battery comprised 11 officers and 129 men. There were 3 Troops of 3 officers and 39 men each, with each Troop containing 2 Sections( 1 officer and 20 men)

Section 2 : 3 x .50 Browning Machine Guns

7 Troop:

Section 3 : 3 x .50 Browning Machine Guns

Section 4 : 3 x .50 Browning Machine Guns

Section 6 : 3 x .50 Browning Machine Guns

‘D’ BATTERY – Anti Tank

‘D’ Battery comprised 7 officers and 46 men. There were 2 Troops of 3 officers and 22 men each, with each Troop containing 2 Sections( 1 officer and 10 men)

Section 2 : 2 x 47/32mm Bredas

10 Troop:

Section 3 : 2 x 47/32mm Bredas

Section 4 : 2 x 47/32mm Bredas

‘E’ BATTERY – Mountain Artillery

‘E’ Battery comprised 7 officers and 78 men. There were 2 Troops of 3 officers and 30 men each, with each Troop containing 2 Sections (1 officer and 14 men)

Section 2 : 2 x 75mm Howitzer

12 Troop:

Section 3 : 2 x 75mm Howitzer
